Reunion plans at Greymare for early October this year
BACK to Greymare celebrations will be held on Saturday, October 6.
Greymare Hall will be the venue for a day which will include an anniversary reunion of cricket in the area.
The Greymare Cricket Club was formed in 1927 and then played B and A grade in a period in the 1960s when Warwick had a record number of senior cricket teams.
Greymare won one Warwick A-grade premiership before player numbers dropped and the majority of Greymare players joined the nearby Wheatvale club. In the 1990s, Greymare fielded a team in the Australia Day Carnival in Warwick for around five years.
Two of the organisers of the October 6 cricket are pace bowler Allan Matthews, who played in the grand final winning team in the 1960s, and South Queensland Country all rounder John Cleary, who was part of the Greymare team of the 1990s.
The celebrations on October 6 will include a cricket match, markets, an auction and musical entertainment.
Part of the proceeds of the day will go to LifeFlight, an organisation which has airlifted four Greymare residents to Brisbane hospitals when they required specialist treatment. All four will be part of the fund-raising effort on October 6.
There is a concrete wicket on the recreation reserve next to the Greymare Hall and organisers are searching for tarpaulin covers to borrow for the day. Tarpaulin covers were used on all concrete pitches until the advent of synthetic mats 40 years ago.
The Greymare cricket field is one of the biggest in the area.
