REVEALED: Hundreds of Warwick students suspended last year

WARWICK'S high school students are misbehaving at an alarming rate, with almost 350 suspensions dished out at one school last year.

Warwick State High School had a suspension rate of 39.36 per cent, with a total of 348 suspensions given from 884 students in 2017.

This figure is down from 43.03% in 2016.

The statistics were made available by the Queensland Government, released after a freedom of information request from Nine News Queensland, revealing the details on exclusions and suspensions from 2017 for state schools.

Substance misconduct involving tobacco and other legal substances accounted for 27 of Warwick High's 348 suspensions, with physical misconduct, not involving a weapon, invoking 90 short suspensions.

Ipswich had the highest rate of suspensions at a Queensland school, with Redbank Plains State High School dishing out 947 suspensions amongst its 1729 students, at a staggering rate of almost 55 per cent.

Despite having just 40 students, Leyburn State School had 12 suspensions, at a rate of 30 per cent.

Allora P-10 State School had one recorded instance of a charge suspension, which by definition continues until the charge is dealt with or until the principal decides that the student can attend school.

In terms of exclusions, Warwick State High School had nine at just over one per cent. Allora P-10 State School had a rate of 1.6 per cent, with four exclusions.

On the other end of the spectrum, Warwick West State School had the lowest percentage of suspensions with just 3.7 per cent, closely followed by Warwick Central State School with 3.9 per cent.

Warwick State High School has been contacted for comment.
