Revved up and ready to ride

NIC Steketee has a best of second in his first three months of motocross riding and loving it.

The 10-year-old and his brother Sam, 9, spend from 9.30am to 4.30pm each Sunday at club practice days.

That means six opportunities to test their bikes and skills on the straights, corners and jumps on the motocross track.

"It's a competitive sport and you meet a lot of friends," Nic said.

Last Sunday was his first fall on the dirt bike track at Morgan Park but with all the protective clothing, he was not injured.

Sam was as proud as punch when he received his first participation medal.

"I like the jumps," Sam said.

Mandy Steketee said her sons had been on bikes around the yard for years.

"We thought motocross would be a great family thing," she said.

This Sunday, the monthly club day will be held at Morgan Park, which involves racing rather than just practice.

As well as motocross, the brothers play Warwick junior football each Saturday at Queens Park.

Their father, Peter, likes trail riding and is heading to Greenlands on June 2-3 with the boys for a weekend of riding.

"Trail riding gives the boys extra skills," Mandy said.

Weekly club practices are held each Thursday at the track at Morgan Park and new riders are welcome.
