Crystal clear why she had to pedal a rickshaw for 1700km
CRYSTAL Davis has broken a world record, but she says her biggest accomplishment on her unique journey is suicide prevention awareness.
For the last two months Crystal has been peddling on her rickshaw down the Bruce Hwy from Port Douglas to the final destination, Hervey Bay.
Today Crystal and her rickshaw will arrive on the Fraser Coast to help spread the message of suicide prevention, one that is desperately needed locally.
Earlier this year APN research revealed there were 106 suicide and self-harm related deaths in the region during 2009 to 2012.
It's statistics like that, that helped Crystal keep peddling 1700km in the last two months, as well as tackling the world record for longest rickshaw travel.
Crystal was inspired to take to the road after an experience with a loved one battling suicidal thoughts. Since then she has been exploring what makes her happy and healthy.
"Happiness is essential to survival," she said.
"Now I think I can achieve whatever I want to."
It's been a lesson Crystal hopes she never forgets.
See Crystal on Saturday at 10am at Eat @ Dan and Steph's, 499 Charlton Esplanade in Hervey Bay.
