Ride boosts research

YANGAN State School raised just under $4000 this year at the annual Leanne Hoffman Trail Ride.

About $850 was donated to the cancer council at a special school parade on Tuesday and it will go towards melanoma research.

P&C president Colette Locke said she was pleased with the community efforts behind the event.

"The fundraiser is equally important for both organisations (cancer council and P&C) so it's amazing that the community and businesses support it," Mrs Locke said.

Cancer council fundraising co-ordinator Susan Hickey said the school's contribution to the charity helped tremendously.

"This is particularly close to their hearts and it gives me goosebumps just talking about it," Mrs Hickey said.

She said because of the personal connections with cancer, Yangan State School's initiative to run the fundraiser was heart-warming.

"This is definitely a special one to me."
