Allan Flood credits horse in roping win
ALLAN Flood gives a lot of the credit for his rope and tie success this year to Dakota, a horse owned by his daughter Bonnie.
Flood has moved into the top 10 in Australian Professional Rodeo Association rope and tie standings after his second place at the Warwick Rodeo at the weekend.
He finished second behind standings leader Shane Kenny, of Emerald, who has almost won twice as much money as the current runner-up in the standings.
"Dakota has been working really well and gives 100 per cent to me in the rope and tie and team roping," Flood said.
"Bonnie uses the same horse in breakaway roping.
"Not many horses are used for all three roping events."
Flood said it was always nice to place at his hometown rodeo.
"A place in Warwick is worth three or four elsewhere, especially as there is such tough competition at the Warwick Rodeo," he said.
The top 15 qualify for the APRA National Finals Rodeo and Flood reckons he needs another couple of placings to secure a spot.
"I am contemplating a trip down south for the Christmas Run in New South Wales and Victoria," he said.
Flood has competed in between 15 and 20 APRA finals in a 43-year career in rodeo.
Warwick cowboy Wade Eastwell went into the Warwick Rodeo in 14th place on APRA standings and is also a strong chance for the finals.
Eastwell recently placed at a pro rodeo at Tamworth.
One of the major movers in standings at Warwick was Moree cowgirl Wendy Caban who won the barrel race from Cherie O'Donoghue, of Lockington, Victoria.
Among the cowgirls at the Warwick Rodeo, Caban and O'Donoghue had won the most titles.
Caban is now likely to take the lead in all around cowgirl standings.
