Eastwell to compete in nationals

TIM Eastwell reckons it’s “pretty cool” to represent Queensland in an open sporting team at the age of 16.

The Warwick Hack and Pony Club member is in the Queensland mounted games team to compete in the nationals on July 24-26.

He qualified on his horse Silver Jack in his first season of seniors.

“It is pretty cool, awesome,” Eastwell said.

Roma rider Peter Green hasn’t let a bit of effort and a lack of sleep get in his way to fulfilling a dream to represent Queensland.

For a recent training weekend at the Warwick Showgrounds, he left Roma with horse in tow at 4am on the Saturday.

The pair are joined in the team by Toorbul twins Luke and Matt Gilbert who are set to represent Queensland in mounted games for a third time.

When it comes to mounted games, Eastwell likes the stick peg event.

“We have to knock blocks over with a stick,” he said.

“My horse Silver Jack loves mounted games, he can’t get enough of it.”

There is plenty of attachment between horse and rider as Eastwell has been riding Silver Jack since the age of eight.

“Silver Jack is now 11 and I reckon I can get another 10 years out of him,” he said.
