Riders take fight against cancer

VOLUNTEERS and supporters from the Warwick community hit the open road with Cancer Council Queensland in a motorcycle ride to celebrate half a century in the fight against cancer last Monday.

Cancer Council Queensland staff joined local branch members and volunteers from the Warwick and surrounding communities for supper to thank them for their continued support during the past 50 years.

Cancer Council Queensland spokeswoman and cancer survivor, Megan Dwyer, said riders from across south-east Queensland joined the Cancer Council Riders as they travelled across the state.

"We're taking our fight against cancer on the road and visiting towns that connect us with the community," she said.

"The ride was a great chance for locals to enjoy good times with like-minded people, for a great cause.

"Each year, thousands of Queenslanders enable our vision for a cancer-free future by volunteering or giving generously to our work, so that we can reach out to people affected by cancer," Ms Dwyer said.

"This ride is our way of saying thank you, and will be an event to celebrate the road between friends.

"The community is the backbone of our organisation, without community donations and involvement we would not be able to fund research and help cancer patients."

The CC Riders covered 5000km across Queensland.
