Polocrosse riders train for interstate series
THE horses are saddled, the early mornings have started and the racquets are out of the bag for another polocrosse season.
On Sunday, the Cunningham Polocrosse Club held a practice at the Bony Mountain Recreation Reserve in preparation for the start of the season at the Barastoc Interstate Series on April 19-21 at Morgan Park.
Seven Queensland teams will do battle with teams from New South Wales and
Victoria in the series that starts at noon on the Friday and includes two nights of play.
The Cunningham club will be represented by four juniors in the interstate series.
Sally Gilbert, Carly Cooper and Sophie Forster are in the Queensland junior girls team and Tim Forster is in the boys team.
After the interstate series, Cunningham players in late April will head to Albury for the Australian Junior Classic, which will be held in conjunction with the New South Wales club championships.
Maddie Burton, Anthony O'Leary, Tim Forster, Carly Cooper and Sally Gilbert will play in the Queensland junior mixed team at Albury.
Dugall Strahley will play in the second junior team at Albury.
Cunningham secretary Robyn Cooper said the club would field a club team of Sam Burton, Sophie Forster, Rebecca Webb, Zac and Paul O'Leary and Rob Strahley in the NSW club championships.
"The first carnival for our club is the Shell Cup at Morgan Park in conjunction with the interstate series," she said.
The Cunningham club will host two carnivals this year, on May 11-12 and August 3-4 at Bony Mountain Recreation Reserve.
