Rising league stars get touch of NRL action in squads
RUGBY LEAGUE: As one promising footballer from Assumption College finishes his time as part of an NRL development squad, three more have been included in squads for next year.
Taegan Inmon has been part of a Brisbane Broncos development squad for the past four years. Zac Bethwith and Jayden Lippi are new members of the Broncos development squad and Tom Bell is part of a Melbourne Storm squad.
For the past four years, Inmon trained four times a year with the Broncos development squad.
"I learnt heaps from the squad training. A lot of the coaching was about techniques, how to tackle and pass correctly,” he said.
"The most benefit to me from the Broncos coaching was with my passing.”
A centre, Inmon graduates to senior footy next year and will play U18s for the Warwick Cowboys.
"If I get the opportunity, I would love to play NRL footy. I want a good season with the Cowboys, get to the finals and win the premiership,” he said.
Beckwith and Lippi were fullbacks for the two Collegians teams in 2017 U14 fixtures.
Both are happy to play other positions with Beckwith believing his best position is wing.
He played for Central division in the state championships this year and scored two tries on the wing.
A Killarney resident, Beckwith has represented Darling Downs in athletics. Lippi also plays five-eighth.
"I am a Broncos supporter and have already received some Broncos gear and will go to a three-day camp next year,” Lippi said.
Bell plays second row and lock in club footy for Collegians and will attend a Storm development camp in Brisbane in January.
He is a Gold Coast Titans fan but said he liked the Storm as well.
"My favourite player is Ash Taylor and I like the way Matt Gillett plays,” he said.
World Cup semis
THE Australian Jillaroos will have an easy semi final when they play Canada at Shark Park on Sunday in the Women's World Cup in rugby league.
Australia beat Canada 88-0 on Wednesday to finish on top of Pool A and will play the same team on Sunday. Killarney prop Stephanie Hancock is in her fourth World Cup.
New Zealand will meet England in the other semi.
