AN ACCIDENT waiting to happen is how some residents of Warwick's Iceberg Crt have described the narrow roads and lack of parking.

Resident John Walmsley said the situation would only be compounded if a proposed duplex development due to be approved at tomorrow's general council meeting went ahead.

"The concern is a combination of the narrow streets, which are only about five metres wide and we have a very acute, 90-degree corner which is a blind corner," Mr Walmsley said.

The application put forward to council was for a material change of use with the block of land originally approved for one residential dwelling.

The change of use would allow two units, each with a driveway, to be built on the corner block.

Mr Walmsley said there was already an issue with cars parking on the street and two extra units, with potentially two or three extra cars each was cause for major concern.

Mr Walmsley and his wife Vivienne said they always knew the block would eventually be developed but never thought the council would approve a duplex.

Mrs Walmsley said cars already parked in such a way they blocked the view at the corner.

"Imagine what a house will do," she said.

"There are mostly young families around with children riding bikes and scooters."

She said when parked cars lined the streets, vehicles had to weave in and out and there was definitely not enough room for two cars to pass each other.

"And what about emergency services vehicles?" she asked.

"Only weeks ago Mayor Ron Bellingham was talking about the issues with the narrow street."

There were five submissions against the application which council took into account at last week's Planning and Environment committee meeting.

A recommendation to approve the sub-division subject to council conditions will be put forward at tomorrow's meeting.

Another application for a duplex just around the corner, on Pristine Crt, will also go before council at the general meeting tomorrow.

Two submissions - for similar reasons - were made against the Pristine Crt sub-division.
