COX'S Bridge in Victoria St and the Queens Park Weir were both under water yesterday afternoon, after heavy rain in the mountains east of Warwick earlier in the weekend.

When Graham Buchner and his wife Margaret spotted the "flooded road - road closed" sign on Park Rd, they drove further to get a closer look.

"Killarney must have had a fair bit of rain overnight," Mr Buchner said.

"It takes 14 hours for the water to get from there to down here (at the Condamine River in Warwick)."

He said while the flow in the river was good, it would be better if the moisture had come from "up above" instead of via the Condamine.

"We need it (the rain). Every time you see in the weather forecasts 'rain for whatever town, elsewhere dry' I think we need to rename the town 'Elsewhere'," he laughed.

Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Brett Harrison said there would only be a bit of early drizzle on the escarpment this morning.

"It will be fine in the Warwick and Stanthorpe areas on Tuesday and Wednesday with a possible late shower or storm on Thursday," Mr Harrison said.

The minimum temperate expected today is 17 degrees and the maximum 28.

Mr Harrison said winds would be generally light easterly turning north-east on Tuesday then north to north-west on Wednesday and Thursday.

"All the wind will be light to moderate this week," he said.

To 9am yesterday, the highest falls on the Darling Downs were 57mm at Mt Kynock near Toowoomba and 55mm at Carr's Lookout east of Killarney. Warwick had 13mm and Stanthorpe 1mm.
