Roads given a boost
MAYOR Peter Blundell has trumpeted an increase in funding for the region's roads, saying the budget had come back to "normal" levels of spending.
Cr Blundell said road funding has been increased for both normal maintenance and capital works, with total funding for the road maintenance program of $7.08 million, "an increase of 12.25% over the last year".
"This is in addition to flood repairs which are funded separately by the state and federal governments," the mayor said.
"Capital works were scaled back last year, but this year have returned to normal levels.
"Significant items in the budget include $1million for placing new gravel surfaces on worn roads.
"A total of $1.565 million has also been allocated to reseal the bitumen road network.
"These are essential programs which are required to ensure that council's road network does not further deteriorate."
Cr Blundell said $950,000 would be spent on roadworks to Cullendore Rd at Elbow Valley this year, part-funded by the State Government.
"More sealing of this vital link will be carried out under this significant project," he said.
