Rocky teen in coma after 'simple bike accident'
HE was doing something he did every day and now 19-year-old Rockhampton teen Matthew Hill is in a coma in Brisbane.
He was riding to nearby mountain biking trails with his girlfriend when he came off his bike on Frenchville Rd.
The apprentice electrician has been in a critical condition at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane after falling from his bike on Tuesday evening.
As of midday yesterday, he was in a stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit with staff saying they were planning on waking him but couldn't determine a time at that stage.
A keen mountain biker, Mr Hill is a member of the Rocky Mountain Bike Club and the news of his accident has shocked those who know him.
Devastated by the accident, Dan Whitten, a close friend of Mr Hill set up a GoFundMe page in the hopes of raising $1000 to help the family with medical expenses.
"Matt Hill had what seemed to be a fairly simple bike accident," the post on the page reads.
"He has ended up with serious head injuries and is in an induced coma."
Raising $4520 from 81 donations in just one day, the GoFundMe will help the family with travel and medical expenses while Mr Hill is hospital.
Locals donating to the GoFundMe have been sending their well wishes to Mr Hill's family, with one person writing "You and your family are in our thoughts daily."
Many comments left on the page have been directed at Mr Hill and the communities hope for a speedy recovery.
"Thinking of you buddy," one comment read.
"Kick that determination and fighting spirit into top gear and smash out this recovery. You got that Matty."
