Rodeo promises to be rough for "Allora's strongest men"

ALLORA will host a full program of fun activities and rodeo action tonight for the Wattles Rugby League Club Rodeo.

Held at the Allora Showgrounds, the action starts at 4pm with yabby races before the rodeo takes centre stage from 6pm.

Originally scheduled to be held in December, rain interfered, but organisers Scott Keogh and Aaron Scheid were quick to move the hugely popular event to this weekend.

This will be the second Wattles Rodeo with the first event in 2014 attracting a crowd of more than 1000 spectators and eager competitors.

There will be an open bull ride, footballers' steer ride, open bullock ride, junior steer ride, poddy ride and pony buckjump.

Wattles president Aaron Scheid said there would also be a competition to find "Allora's strongest man".

"We'll have an obstacle course set up with various tasks the contestants will have to perform along the way," he said.

"It's a bit of fun and a new addition to the rodeo."

The headline event will be the annual moo poo competition with $5000 in prizemoney for the winner.

Mr Scheid said the rules for the moo poo were simple.

"There will be 100 squares mapped out on the field and the person that has the square where the cow does its business will be the winner," he said.

Scott Keogh will run the rodeo and has bucking stock from six contractors, including Gill Brothers and Robert Bunn.

Mr Keogh said there had been 24 entries submitted for the Open Bull Ride and eager footballers would test their hand at the celebrity ride.

"We've got a celebrity bull ride for the Wattles football players," he said.

"We try and look after them; you can't put them on too much.

"Having said that it's not lawn bowls; you can't tell the animals to go soft on them."

Mr Keogh said there would be plenty on offer for the kids too.

"I've got a fresh load of bucking ponies for the kids that won't disappoint," he said. "They're pretty tough little ponies.

"Hopefully, we can get a good crowd along and have a great night out for the community while supporting the football club."

Entry costs $15 per adult and gates open at 4pm today.
