Rodeo to ride out staff absence
WARWICK Show and Rodeo Society secretary Helen Welsh has taken a leave of absence due to ailing health, less than two months out from the Warwick Rodeo.
President Neville Fanning yesterday confirmed Mrs Welsh's departure and said the role would be filled temporarily by assistant secretaries Michelle Hanigan and Kate Andersen.
He said he was unsure of when or even if Mrs Welsh would return to her role as secretary, but confirmed she would definitely be out for this year's rodeo.
The mother-of-two threw herself into the role in December last year and this would have been her first year of planning and overseeing the Warwick Rodeo.
Despite being down a key society member so close to the society's biggest event, Mr Fanning yesterday said there was no need for concern and the event would go ahead as planned.
"There's no worries there, everything is on track and it is just unfortunate these things happen," Mr Fanning said.
Although there is no clear indication of whether or not Mrs Welsh will return to the position, Mr Fanning said there were no immediate plans to advertise the position or re-appoint somebody else.
"At this stage we're just going to leave it and go with what we've got," he said.
"We're all just going to pitch in and pull it together - that's what we do."
