Rogers leaps to set new PBs and wins monthly award

JUSTYN Rogers was the final monthly winner in the Daily News/Warwick Credit Union Junior Sports Star of the Year award for 2017.

He started the athletics season with wins in the long jump, triple jump and hurdles to be age champion in Warwick State High School athletics.

Rogers jumped a new personal best of 1.85m in winning high jump at the Border district championships. He was first in long jump and triple jump to be runner-up in the age championships.

At the Warwick All Schools athletics, he did even better than at his school carnival, winning long jump, triple jump, high jump, hurdles, javelin and the 200m to be age champion. He set a new personal best of 1.9m in high jump and just missed out on setting a new record when he just clipped the bar at 1.97m.

Rogers went on to the state championships to win bronze in the long jump with a leap of 6.93m and then won silver at the nationals with a personal best of 7.32m.

He is one of 12 monthly winners to be honoured at the Daily News/Warwick Credit Union Junior Sports Star dinner on March 19 at Hawker Rd Function Centre. Tickets on sale at Daily News.
