Rolling over the competition
THOUSANDS took to the Killarney Show Grounds for the annual Killarney Bonfire Night.
The not-so traditional bonfire drums attract people from all over the country to see the creative work.
Event co-coordinator Louise Brosnan said the event grows each year.
"The drums have always been a core part of the night and people here from word of mouth about them and want to see them for themselves,” Ms Brosnan said.
"I've had people from Victoria alter their travel plans to make it tonight, and people from as far as Mackay as well.”
The fire drum competition handed out prizes across three categories. Best traditional 44 gallon drum, other and new exhibitor award.
Taking out best traditional 44 gallon drum and new exhibitor was Rosewood resident, Owen Little and his bulldozer drum.
The diesel mechanic came to the bonfire night last year and was inspired by the imagination and creativity he saw.
"I was overwhelmed when I came last year, the level of skill and detail was incredible and inspired me to want to creat something,” Mr Little said.
Work began on the bulldozer drum last month, using angle grinders and welding to create the shape he wanted.
Long-time entrant Jason Green won the, other, category with his Mad Max motorcycle drum.
The winners both took home a share of the competition entry fees.
