Roosters victorious in BRL grand final
THE town of Inglewood is in party mode after the Roosters won the Border Rugby League A-grade men's grand final 44-10 at Inglewood this afternoon.
The Inglewood Roosters led Tenterfield Tigers 22-10 at half-time.
The victory gives Inglewood three premierships in the past six years. They won under captain-coach Matt Gainey in 2011 and 2012, lost to Killarney in the 2013 grand final and then didn't play in 2014 and 2015.
The win this year is a personal triumph for captain-coach Brent Osborne, his players, club officials and everyone who supported the Roosters this season.
They did it the hard way winning a major semi-final at Tenterfield to secure home ground advantage in the grand final.
Some of the best on the day were Inglewood trio Osborne, Brendon Sauverain and Brent Bennett while Jarrod McIntosh, Marc McGrady, Murray Johnson and James Springborg were four of the best of the Tigers.
Roosters fullback Brent Hearne was carried off late in the game with a knee injury after a strong performance in general play and as goalkicker.
In the ladies leaguetag game, Tenterfield finished a third season with an unbeaten record under coach Wayne Minns after scoring a 32-10 win against Wallangarra. Tenterfield led 16-4 at half-time.
Player of the match awards will be presented at the BRL 20th anniversary dinner in a fortnight in Stanthorpe.
Today's two grand finals capped a massive weekend for rugby league in Inglewood after the junior club hosted six Warwick and District junior grand finals on Saturday.
