BOXING: Jacob Wyllie has a 25/5 win/loss record in boxing as he prepares for a bus trip to Moranbah for a fight tomorrow night.

The Rose City Boxing Club member and his coach Damien Lawler will jump on a bus on Friday night for an 11-hour bus trip to a town west of Mackay in North Queensland.

"I hope to sleep on the bus,” he said.

"I will be fighting a boxer from Moranbah but don't know anything about him.”

Wyllie fights in the 62kg to 64kg range and at age 17 reckons he won't get above 70kg during his boxing career.

He was one of more than 50,000 fans at the recent world championship welterweight fight at Suncorp Stadium between Jeff Horn and Manny Pacquiao.

"It was incredible to see Manny live, one of the best. When I walked into Suncorp and saw the ring, the big screens and the crowd, I said I wanted to work hard to secure a fight like that one day,” Wyllie said.

The world title bout was even more interesting for Wyllie as like Horn and Pacquiao, he is also in the 60-70kg weight range.

He dreams of fighting for Australia but was ineligible to even think about going for the Commonwealth Games team for the Gold Coast next year as he will be under 18 at the time of the trials.

"I want to give boxing a good shot and see where it takes me,” he said.

"I would love to go for the Australian team for the Tokyo Olympics or turn professional and make some money out of the sport.”

He is in year 11 at Assumption College and trains each weekday under Lawler with the Rose City squad at the Warwick Boxing Club Gym in Albert St.
