Rose City boxer is a national silver medallist in his first appearance in Australian titles
BOXING: Rose City Boxing Club member Jacko McMahon has won silver at his first nationals.
McMahon went into camp with the Queensland team last week before the start of the championships on Thursday at the Gold Coast. His likely opponent in a semi-final went over the weight so McMahon was left to wait until Saturday night for the final.
He came up against Kobe Rugless in the final and lost the first round.
The second round was close but awarded to Rugless before McMahon’s fitness and training enabled him to finish the stronger to win the final round.
Rugless was awarded the fight two rounds to one.
The Queensland coach in his corner said after the fight that round 2 could have gone either way.
