Roughead remains faithful to Hawks by signing new contract

HAWTHORN ruck/forward Jarryd Roughead has ended speculation over his future - signing a new deal with the Hawks.

Roughead's current deal was not due to expire until the end of next season but the big man decided he would commit to the club a year before he was due to become a free agent.

"Any time you get to extend your footy career, it's always a good feeling, and now I suppose I can say I'll be a one club player," the 26-year-old told hawthornfc.com.au.

"Hawthorn has been very good to me.

"I came here when I was a 17-year-old and when this deal is up I'll be 29.

"For them to show faith in me, it was pretty much a no-brainer [to re-sign]."

Roughead, who starred in the win over Sydney on the weekend, joins Luke Hodge, Sam Mitchell, David Hale, Luke Breust and Ben Stratton in committing to the Hawks.

The club has still not managed to secure the signature of star forward Lance Franklin who is a restricted free agent.

Contract talks have been delayed until the end of this season.
