LETTER: 'Royal commission built on spite'
I JUST watched a day of the Royal Commission into unions and was struck by a tone matching its spiteful origin, never mind the horrendous waste of millions from a budget emergency-depleted Hockey.
Can anyone advise the cost of enabling Tony Abbott and his tight circle of privilege to get square for being a hopeless negotiator in 2010 and then fairly targeted as a misogynist in parliament by Julia Gillard?
To uncover any sort of criminality by union officials is okay by me. However what I watched was the culmination of waste and spite, following the profusion of lies and vicious attacks on the young, old and defenceless by the government in the past year.
It shouldn't be surprising. A procession of snarling ministers has let us know what our "betters" require of us. We are the lifters, not the knights and dames. Not the Ginas and the BHPs.
The proverbial drover's dog could have won the last election.
I hope that next time round a suitably reformed, renewed and rambunctious opposition with solid and fair policies will be off the leash.
If we are left with this lot we might as well have Clive for PM.
