ROYAL IN ROSE CITY: How Warwick celebrated the royal wedding

SCONES and tea were high on the menu as Rose City residents celebrated the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle last night.

Warwick resident Belinda Fenton cracked out her grandmother's china tea set and settled down to watch the ceremony.

"Growing up I have always loved the Royals and I enjoyed this royal wedding," Mrs Fenton said.

Pascale Farrow was adamant she wasn't going to watch the wedding, but when the bells chimed she couldn't resist.

Ms Farrow said she loved Princess Meghan's dress and called Prince Harry "ruggedly handsome", with many in agreement.

The wedding was so relaxed compared to any Royal weddings I've seen," she said.

"There were smiles, genuine love and a few jokes... they really did make it their day and not so pre-manufactured like the others have been."

Jenny Whitsed said it was the "fairytale" effect that got so many excited about royal occasions.

"I suppose we grow up a bit on fairy tale stories... everyone seems to enjoy it."

But for Allora man Gerard Nolan and wife Helen, the big day was a chance to pop on a veil and suit for the first time in 27 years and recreate their wedding portrait.

Mrs Nolan even had a couple of "bridesmaids" by her side, with friends Deborah Swalling and Tricia O'Neill donning dresses from a bygone era.

"Amazing that we have celebrated for Charles and Di in 1981, Will and Kate in 2011 and Harry and Meghan in 2018," she said.

After enjoying a royal parade complete with a red carpet and floral archway earlier this week, residents at Akooramak stayed wide awake to catch the live broadcast from Windsor Castle.

The residents all said they loved the dress, but thought the bishop may have waffled on.

Some of the seniors even had some advice to share with the young couple.

"Always go to bed happy, always resolve your problems before they get worse," Maureen Dunn said.

"Talk things over, communication is key," Betty Woodrow pitched in.

"Love your partner with all your strength," Ralph Cullen said, who's been married to wife Joy for 37 years.

But for others, low-key was the way to go.

Warwick woman Jill Mitchell cracked out a classic treat of Arnott's Caramel Crowns and enjoyed the occasion.
