RSL kicks in to help junior footy players

THE Wattles Rugby League Club gratefully accepted a $2000 donation from the Allora RSL club before all the action of the Saturday afternoon games at Clifton last weekend.

Allora RSL vice president Sarah Turner was inspired by long-time Wattles supporter Barry Glass to apply for a grant from Western Division RSL to assist in supporting the junior Wattles team.

Miss Turner generously gives her time to the Wattles junior team as their fitness trainer and said Mr Glass's dedication to the Wattles was amazing.

As the club relies solely on volunteer support, when the opportunity arose to supply the team with some cash for much-needed equipment she jumped on the chance.

"It was a double whammy," she said.

"We were able to assist the Wattles Rugby League Club and thank Mr Glass for all his hard work to both the Wattles club and the Allora RSL club."

Attending school in Allora many years ago Miss Turner returned to the community two years ago with her husband Chad Wilson and two children, and has since become heavily involved in helping the community.

Apart from training the Wattles juniors and fulfilling her role as Allora RSL vice president, the passionate local also coaches children's tennis throughout the district, holds a meditation class weekly in Allora and is working on putting together the best Christmas festival Allora has ever seen.

Miss Turner said she finds the community very supportive, resilient and generally compassionate.

"The area has been through so much during the last few years, what with flood, fires and drought," she said.

"It's been tough, which is why I have applied for a grant to be able to provide the community with a free Christmas event where everyone can come together and network and just enjoy themselves."
