Rugby clubs RizeUp against domestic violence
RUGBY LEAGUE: Household items were donated in support of domestic violence during the Warwick and District Junior Rugby League RizeUp round yesterday.
Eastern Suburbs, Collegians and Wattles Clubs hosted games for the round to support the RizeUp charity, which provides practical assistance to victims of domestic violence.
Collegians Junior Rugby League Club president Deb Scanlan said homeware such as towels, pegs and glasses had been donated by both Collegians and Stanthorpe clubs at the game at St Mark's Oval.
"Domestic violence is something that involves the entire community in one way or another,” she said.
Scanlan hoped the round would help raise awareness about the issue.
"We promoted it through our social media to let them know there are people out there to help,” she said.
Donations can still be made to the charity, as Scanlan said the donation box would remain in the Collegians clubhouse next week.
"I thank the people who have contributed today,” she said.
"If anyone's got further contributions we'll make sure it gets to them.”
