Rugby league helps with RizeUp campaign

RUGBY LEAGUE: Local junior rugby league teams across the region have used the weekend's round to celebrate a charity committed to breaking the cycle of domestic violence.

This is the third year the QRL Central Region, local league and clubs have supported RizeUp.

"The RizeUp Charity provides real practical assistance to victims of domestic violence by helping to furnish and fill a home with basic essential items that families would normally need when moving into a bare home,” QRL operations manager Michael Jensen said.

"RizeUp makes sure that homes families are moving into are complete with love and care from the community.”

Jensen said he believed most, if not all clubs, got on board over the weekend.

"The Warwick and District region was seen as one of the biggest contributors last year. It's such a worthy cause.

"From the money, I think Central Division last year managed to help fit out 96 homes and I imagine it'll exceed it this year now it has gone state-wide.”

Jensen said RizeUp tried to ensure the money raised by the regions stayed within that area.

He was unsure on a final dollar amount raised this year, but said he'd collect it all this week and deliver it to RizeUp.

Cup finals

THE Collegians club helped swell the crowd at the Warwick Cowboys TRL games when they played two games on Sunday at Father Ranger Oval.

The White under-16 team beat Blue 44-20 in the President's Cup final. The two Collegians U14 teams also played and Blue won 18-10.

The Collegians club will play MIT Jets at the North Ipswich Reserve on Saturday. The U12 game will be the President's Cup final between leaders Collegians and MIT Jets.

Collegians is the only club to field multiple teams in this year's Warwick and District competition.
