Run 5km, come out looking like a rainbow
RUNNING laps isn't everyone's bag but a quirky new fitness event coming to Warwick aims to make a five kilometre run a whole lot of fun.
A colour run will be held at Warwick Showgrounds on February 4, organised as a fundraiser by Warwick Showgirl entrant Jessica Jones.
Jessica said a brainstorming session with her cousin sparked the idea as she had heard the event had been popular around Australia.
"We've got a five kilometre track to mark out and every kilometre you get sprayed with a different colour,” she said.
By the end of the run, each entrant will be covered in bright colours and look somewhat like a walking rainbow.
Groups, individuals and families are all welcome to take part in the course.
When Jessica lines up at the track, it will also be her first time taking part in a colour run.
But she hopes it will be a great way for people to do exercise and have fun at the same time.
"It's something a lot of people probably wouldn't have done before,” she said.
It is also the first time Jessica has entered the Warwick Showgirl competition, or any other showgirl quest.
"I'm doing it to get into the community and try and get people involved and go to the show,” she said.
Living in Toowoomba, she has strong family ties to Warwick and has been pleased by the response to her fundraising event.
The 24-year-old said more than 100 people had registered their interest through the event page on Facebook.
The run will start at 9am February 4 and costs $20 for adults, $10 for children aged 5-15 and children under 5 are free.
Costs will cover a racing number, water bottle and sachet of colour.
A sausage sizzle has been planned for the day.
