Runner amazed by the growth in the annual Pentath
RUNNING: After playing Darling Downs hockey as a schoolgirl in Warwick, Alicia Hayes returned home to compete in a sporting event after a break of seven years.
She works in project finance with NAB in Sydney and competed in her fifth Pentath-run along with partner Lachlan Williams.
"The Pentath-run has grown massively since the last time I did it,” she said.
"This is the first time I have done all five races.”
She completed the five events in the 42.2km Pentath-run in three hours, 54 minutes.
One of the highlights of the weekend for Alicia was when she and Lachlan were dressed up as Nemo for the Voyage Fitness Superheroes 1500m.
They were part of Team Mona, running in honour of the legendary Steve Moneghetti, who won one Pentath-run and has vowed to return for another.
Her brother Mitch, who works as a political and economic adviser for the US Consulate in Sydney, also competed along with his wife Helena Dona.
The members of Team Mona hailed from Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and overseas to Columbia.
While this year's event was a bit of fun for Mitch, he may get serious again one day after having a best of one hour, 15 minutes, for the half marathon. He represented Queensland twice in cross country and was a state champion in the 3000m steeplechase so the Pentath-run fits perfectly.
