LAURIE Wilson has no doubt his late brother would have approved of a run/walk at Maryvale in his memory to raise funds for Cancer Council Queensland.

The Andy Wilson Memorial Run for a Cure yesterday attracted 75 runners and walkers who vied for memorial trophies donated by Laurie and Joan Wilson and trophies donated by the Maryvale Progress Association.

The event started in front of the Maryvale Crown Hotel and the running side was organised by the Warwick Pentath-run Committee.

After running 5km at parkrun on Saturday in 20 minutes, Pat Sinnott did the same on Sunday to be first home over the same distance.

Darling Downs school representative sportsman Jaiden Fidge was first home in 8km and Peter Andrews first at the 12km distance.

The first walkers were world masters swimming medallist Hanna Wassenaar and Melissa Denny, a relative of the late Andy Wilson.

Georgie Stewart was first woman home in the 5km and second overall. Chris Gilchrist was third across the line in 5km, and Stanthorpe parkrunner Troy Kemp fourth.

For Laurie Wilson, the country venue was excellent.

"Andy loved all sports and played footy, cricket and boxed as well as ran a lot with the YCW," Laurie said.

Sinnott praised the beauty of the course which went north from the hotel to the school area and then runners returned to the starting spot.

"We ran on a bit of grass around the oval. I prefer the bitumen to run on," he said.

Kemp said the run at Maryvale was a bit warmer than parkrun at Stanthorpe.

"I heard about the run through parkrun, it was something different," he said.
