Saddle up for memorial ride
LEANNE Hoffman had a dream.
A dream to stage a mass trail ride with horsemen and women from all over the region to raise money for Yangan State School and the community.
After she died from melanoma three years ago, it was up to the rest of the community to make sure her dream was fulfilled.
Today, her legacy lives on.
Come March, horses and their riders will take to the postcard-perfect surrounds of the Southern Downs for the annual Leanne Hoffman Memorial Trail Ride.
The ride is on March 9-10 and leaves from Emu Creek Rd at 10am.
Treasurer of the Yangan State School P&C Charlie McKinney said the ride would go through a different track to previous years.
"We like to change it up every year so we're going to Brett and Karen McKenzie's private property and to a nice little cottage they built up there," Mrs McKinney said.
"We'll have a barbecue lunch there and then go on to explore the property further."
Cost is $45 for adults and $25 for kids that includes two rides (Saturday and Sunday), lunch and dinner.
A portion of the proceeds will go towards melanoma research.
