Safety is a two-way street
IT SEEMS like a constant battle.
Pushbikes versus motor vehicles.
As the weather starts to get warmer and the days are getting longer, more and more people are hitting the pavement each afternoon whether it's on bike or foot.
While Warwick and District Community Road Safety group members Graham Buchner and David Kemp support locals getting out and enjoying the weather, they would like exercise-goers to remember safety when it comes to being on or near the road.
"Many people are getting out just on dark or after dark wearing dark clothes," Mr Buchner said.
"It's dangerous when they are right on the side of the road and you can't see them until you almost hit them.
"When there's no footpath people should be walking towards the traffic so they can at least see what's coming."
Mr Buchner said walkers should be wearing bright-coloured clothing so they can be easily seen from a distance.
"You can even get reflective shoes these days; there's no excuse not to be seen."
Mr Kemp said he reminded bike riders road safety was their responsibility.
"They need to have headlights. LED ones work really well," he said.
"While it's not law, they should ride single file, one behind the other on the road.
"No one wants to see an accident that could have been prevented by using simple safety techniques. It's all about visibility," Mr Kemp said.
