2002 model car with 12,000km sells for $6800

IT WAS the end of an era for the Murphy family as Stuart Bond auctioned off the estate of the late Bridgette Murphy at the weekend.

Prospective buyers flocked to the Pratten St address on Saturday morning to place their bids on the four-bedroom home, myriad pieces of furniture and an immaculate 2002 Holden Astra.

"It went really well - everything including the house and the car sold under the hammer," Mr Bond said.

"The house sold for $340,000 and the car made $6,800.

"It was pretty average for an estate auction - we do a fair bit of that sort of work and there was nothing there that was really unusual."

Mrs Murphy moved from Swan Creek to Warwick 14 years ago at the age of 82 and passed away earlier this year.

She purchased the car upon moving into town and was only driven from her home to church on Sunday. It had clocked up only 11,980km.

Mr Bond said the auction was well attended, with hundreds of people coming through for the sale and to bid farewell to the well loved woman in the community.

"There were a couple of hundred people there and most were there to buy something so it was well represented by lots of registered buyers," he said.

"We thought we would get a pretty good crowd and it was for a genuine reason.

"It's sort of an end of an era for the Murphy family, who have been around the Swan Creek area for 100 years or so."
