Salon owner reflects on colourful hairdressing career
FASHION designer YVE Saint Laurent famously one said fashions fade, style is eternal.
As a hairdresser and salon owner, Clare Jeffries has seen many fashions come and go over the decades.
For 50 years she's cut, coloured and styled her way through many trends.
Now after 25 years of owning her salon, Clare's Hair Together and True Beauty, Mrs Jeffries is selling up.
On Tuesday, the popular hairdresser will hand over the business to colleague Julie Weston.
Reflecting on her time in the salon, Mrs Jeffries said she had mixed emotions about her "semi-retirement".
"I will really miss the people," she said.
"I've really enjoyed the managing side of the business - it's changed over the years."
From her humble beginnings in a small salon to a thriving business employing more than a dozen stylists, Mrs Jeffries has ridden a wave of success.
In 2014, the salon was awarded the prestigious DeLorenzo Salon of the Year - a year after winning the Warwick Business Excellence Awards.
The salon owner said she owed the salon's success to her hard-working staff.
"The main thing in your business is your staff," she said.
"Good businesses attract good staff."
Over the years Mrs Jeffries has employed 72 stylists, including 40 apprentices and trainees.
"That's one of the highlights for me - being able to employ trainees and give them a chance to have a career," she said.
She will continue to work in the salon on Mondays, taking bookings from her regular clients.
"I would like to say thank you to the loyal clients and staff and wish Julie every success," she said.
For Mrs Weston, the opportunity to buy the salon that started her career was one she couldn't pass up.
The former King St barber shop owner has worked on and off again at the salon over the years.
"Clare has just believed in me since I started," she said.
"I love the salon life - I get on so well with the staff."
The new owner is hoping to bring some of her love for creativity to the salon.
