Salvos brighten up kids' Christmas
SANTA Claus is set to slide down the chimney in just nine sleeps and two people are working tirelessly to make sure every child has at least one gift under the tree.
Marketing manager Stevie McGregor and The Salvation Army's Mark Williamson have been blown away by the generosity of the local community who have snapped up the chance to brighten a child's Christmas.
Baubles have been taken from the Wishing Tree outside Woolworths and have been traded for a present for a disadvantaged child.
Assorted presents include Nerf guns, Barbies, Transformers, trucks, games, teddy bears and books, all stockpiled in the lead-up to Christmas.
Mrs McGregor said she was hopeful that by Christmas, each of the 205 needy kids on the list will receive a gift.
"I would really love to get them all something before Christmas Eve," Mrs McGregor said.
Children in the younger age groups were the first to be sponsored but there are still 75 children to be sponsored, including girls in the nine-year-old to teenager categories and boys from six years old to teenagers.
People can make a donation up until Christmas Eve by taking both the bauble representing the child you would like to help and the present to the centre management office.
