Sam is one win away from most in succession
SAM Hinze isn't even thinking about matching the 17 Warwick Golf Club ladies A-grade championship victories of Joy Horgan but is one week away from the chance to set a new record for successive wins.
Hinze has won the past six titles and leads at the half-way mark of the 2015 championships. She shares the most successive victories currently with Horgan with six.
"I have been happy with my consistency this year," Hinze said after scores of 77 and 78 in the first two rounds.
She birdied the sixth on both Saturday and Sunday and was 15cm away from an eagle on Sunday.
Nathan Jones is determined to win the men's this year after scores of 71 and 72 in the first two rounds, two shots ahead of new member Shane McKenzie.
He shot birdies on the second, sixth, seventh, ninth, 11th and 18th in his two rounds.
In the past two years, he has been the best junior in the open and won the 2013 junior championship.
"I can improve on my performance but at some points at the weekend everything was going well," Jones said.
"This is my last year in juniors and I would love to win the open A-grade while still a junior."
As for the future, Jones is aiming to reduce his handicap to scratch and then seek a position as a trainee professional, one of the ways to make it to the professional ranks.
The final two rounds will be played Saturday and Sunday with trophies for all grades and veterans in both men and ladies ranks.
