Saturday night game for the Warriors against the Danes

RUGBY LEAGUE: It may only be their second match of the season, but coach Gary Lawrence suggests his Wattles Warriors team's stoush tomorrow night at Pittsworth with reigning TRL premiers, the Pittsworth Danes, is among his side's biggest challenges of 2017.

"The Danes are formidable opponents on their home track at any time, but currently they are focused on retaining their title and last week finished ahead of their grand final opponents of last year, Warwick, in a solid 24-10 win”.

While Wattles have lost respected centre Tyrone Jowett with injury this week, Lawrence is upbeat about the return of experienced campaigners in Brenden Wilson and Ryan Duggan.

Former Toowoomba representative Wilson will move into the centres after an injury twinge saw him miss last week's one sided 30-4 win by Wattles over Southern Suburbs.

"Our backline boasts speed and plenty of ability and the experience of Brenden Wilson only adds to our firepower,” he said.

Wilson can certainly claim experience, having made his A-grade debut in 2004 in a Wattles career that includes a TRL premiership, as well as an additional premiership gong with Toowoomba club Brothers after a successful season in their colours.

A year working in the Chinchilla area saw the gifted fullback/centre also taste premiership glory with the Chinchilla Bulldogs.

Ryan Duggan continues a family affair back in Wattles colours, joining his brother Matt Duggan and cousin Michael Duggan in the A-grade side.

The talented utility player will start in the second row with skipper Dale Perkins, but his great value is that he is equally effective whether playing in the backline or forward pack.

Brilliant halfback Matt Duggan is keen for the new season after missing last year due to knee surgery and fullback Jackson Green is also back.
