Saturday rodeo for the juniors at Greymare
RODEO: National equestrian medallist Nikki Burraston will be one of the cowgirls in action at the Warwick Evandale Junior Rodeo on Saturday.
The rodeo starts at 3.30pm Saturday at the Evandale property of Rowan and Melissa Harland on Montrose Rd at Greymare.
Miss Rodeo Australia 2018 runner-up Ashleigh Grant will be part of the grand entry along with the Warwick High Schools Rodeo team. Burraston is one of the favourites for the barrel race after recently competed in a rodeo at St Brendan's, Yeppoon.
Team members have travelled across the state gaining points for the Australian High School Trans-Tasman Challenge in which 15 Australian team members will compete against New Zealand in three rounds at Capella and St Brendan's School, Yeppoon, in September.
Warwick rider Blake Weier will use the rodeo to fine-turn his form for the Junior National Finals at Emerald from June 29-30.
The riders are also aiming to build up points for the high school rodeo state championships in October at St Brendan's.
Events tomorrow at the Evandale Arena are steer ride, team roping, barrel racing and breakaway roping.
Current APRA junior steer ride leader Toby Hale will travel from Wakool in New South Wales to compete.
There is free admission to the rodeo on Saturday afternoon which organisers are planning to finish before dark.
The most entries is in the barrel race with 19.
