School bus and car collide in chaotic wet weather crashes

A SCHOOL bus and car have collided during a series of traffic crashes following a heavy spell of rain on the central and southern Sunshine Coast this afternoon.

Initial reports were that 25 children were aboard the bus when the collision occurred on the corner of Arundell Ave and Currie St about 3.35pm.

No further information was available.

The spell of crashes began when a motorcyclist parted company with his bike on the Nicklin Way around 3.15pm.

He was not seriously injured.

A female driver escape uninjured when her vehicle came to grief on the northbound side of the Bruce Highway between the Chevallum and Maroochydore turn-offs about 3.20pm.

Shortly afterwards, emergency workers went to another single vehicle accident on the opposite side of the highway, about 100m south of the Maroochydore on ramp.

A three car collision on the Sunshine Motorway, north of the Kawana Way, was reported about the same time.

Shortly afterwards, a car reportedly struck a power pole on Caloundra Road, Caloundra, and a car and motorcycle collided near Ganawarra St, Currimundi.
