Schools get into the rodeo spirit

THEY might not be big enough to try out the bull-bucking or saddle bronc ride at the Warwick Rodeo but that did not stop the kids at Killarney State School dressing up in their best cowboy and cowgirl outfits.

Students from prep to Year 3 pulled on their favourite pair of jeans, chequered shirt and cowboy hats to show off to the Warwick Rodeo Queen and princesses who visited them yesterday.

It was one of three places the queen and princesses visited and Warwick Rodeo Queen Danika Boland said it was great to see the kids getting into the rodeo spirit.

At Killarney State School Danika said they judged the students colouring in competition and had a yeehaa competition.

"Basically we just had to see who could yell yeehaa the loudest," she said.

Danika said Yangan State School really took to the dress up idea.

"They had lots dressed up as princesses with crowns and lots with cowboy hats.

"There were even a few dressed as rodeo clowns with face paint and everything."

Danika and the princesses will visit Wheatvale, Murray's Bridge and Maryvale State Schools today.
