Scots College goes down in Rugby Sevens finals

THE Scots PGC College went down four tries to two in both open finals in the Warwick Scots Invitational Sevens.

Scots PGC teams lost the boys and girls finals 4-2 to The Lloyd McDermott Foundation teams from south-east Queensland.

The teams have been formed through an indigenous rugby union program for talented players dubbed the Lloyd McDermott competition after the first indigenous player to make the Wallabies and first indigenous barrister.

Scots PGC head of rugby Damien Cahill said Matthew Whittaker and state player Khan Ladbrook were two of the best players in his open sevens boys team.

"Will Dearden went well after only joining the top team in the past month," Cahill said.

In the girls' team from Scots PGC, Georgia Brennan was prominent in attack and Grace Fender went well out wide.

In the 16 years boys' competition played at Risdon Oval, Dalby State High School beat Concordia in the final.

Scots PGC girls won the 15 years competition after winning the final against a combined Downlands/TACAPS (Toowoomba Anglican College and Preparatory School).

Cahill said the college attracted 24 teams for the inaugural sevens competition.

"There is a lot of interest in next year's carnival."
