Scots pays homage to war hero
THE Scots PGC College was a hive of activity at the weekend with the dedication of its newest building.
The ribbon on the new extended learning centre was officially cut by special guest Senator John Hogg with parents, teachers and students turning out to honour the building's namesake - Wilfred (Wilf) Arthur.
Wilf became a legend for his time spent in the Royal Australian Air Force during the Second World War and for his bravery as a soldier.
The dedication was fitting for the building as Wilf spent four-and-a-half years at the school.
The Scots PGC College principal Michael Harding said it was an exciting day and the building would be put to good use.
"It's used as a learning support centre as well as a junior library and, of course, there is the basketball court," he said.
He said dedicating the building to Wilf Arthur was a great way to bring the school's past and present together.
The Scots PGC College received $2.2 million under the Building the Education Revolution program.
Senator Hogg said he was happy to open the 164th project built under the scheme.
"It's been fantastic to see the principal, school staff, parents and tradespeople working together to deliver these important projects," he said.
"Now they are completed, teachers and students in our local schools will be teaching and learning in 21st Century facilities that they so richly deserve," he said.
