AUSSIE RULES: Scots PGC College's Harry Keenan will play for Western Magpies in this weekend's under-18 grand final against Morningside at Southport.

Keenan played for Darling Downs in basketball and Aussie Rules this year.

Last season, Keenan played for the Warwick Redbacks when the club had an under-16 team in the Darling Downs competition.

The 16-year-old started the current Aussie rules season with selection in the Brisbane South club team to play in the AFL Queensland State Carnival at Burpengary. He was selected after he and fellow Southern Downs player Rohan Anderson played for Darling Downs in trials for Brisbane South selection.

Brisbane South played against teams from Gold Coast, Brisbane North, South Pacific, North Queensland and Sunshine Coast in the state championships.

He played predominately in the ruck.

Brisbane South club is aligned to the Brisbane Lions and the coach for the state championships was former Brisbane Lions and Collingwood player Anthony Corrie.

After the state championships, he joined the under-18 Western Magpies Colts team, which is part of the Chelmer Football Club.

He again played in the ruck in the highest level U18 competition in the state and will be a key player in this weekend's grand final.

Keenan has played in Warwick Basketball Association fixtures but this season was part of the Toowoomba Mountaineers U18 team, which was runners up in division 2 in the Basketball Queensland Junior Basketball Competition.

He was fourth leading scorer with 113 points for the Mountaineers and also scored 203 points for his club in the Toowoomba U19 competition.

In school basketball, he and fellow Southern Downs student Jack Thornton were selected in the regional 16-18 years team to compete in the state championships in Cairns in May.

Keenan played centre in the Darling Downs team in Cairns.
