Scots PGC well placed in QCIS cross country
CROSS COUNTRY: Scots PGC College won the percentage trophy in the Queensland Combined Independent Schools Cross Country in Warwick this week.
The 560 runners followed courses through the college grounds, around St Mark's Oval and Queens Park and through the Greenbelt.
As well as winning the percentage trophy, Scots PGC was second overall behind the combined Ambrose Treacy College (boys) and Brigidine College (girls) from Indooroopilly which has four times the students of the Warwick school.
Pip Wolstenholme was the best performed from Scots PGC with a first place in 15-year girls.
She beat the second placegetter by one minute and 25 seconds.
Brianna Groves and Jeremy Shepherd recorded seconds in the 10-years
age group.
Maxwell Batterham was third in the 16-years boys race and Daniel Shepherd third in 12-years boys.
Most of the Scots PGC placegetters will compete in the Darling Downs cross country championships at Kearney Springs on May 23 where they can vie for selection in the Darling Downs teams to compete at the state championships.
The second this week in cross country by the Scots PGC follows a second overall earlier this year in QCIS swimming.
The QCIS association was formed by Scots PGC, Downlands, Ambrose Treacy colleges and the Toowoomba Anglican College and Preparatory School.
Three of the founding members host carnivals each year. Scots PGC is the cross country venue, swimming is always at Downlands College and athletics at Ambrose Treacy College.
As well as the success of Scots PGC students, Zara Kruger from the Warwick area won a race under the banner of TACAPS.
Scots PGC students will travel to Brisbane on May 26 for the QCIS futsal championships.
All QCIS sport is played at one-day annual gala carnivals at one of the schools rather than weekly fixtures.
