Scots students show their charitable side

TWO Scots PGC College students have shown their charitable side as they prepared for their Easter break.

Olivia Rickert and Laura Moody organised a food drive to donate to the Longreach community currently facing severe drought.

"It was really just about helping others," Olivia said.

"We spoke on assembly a few weeks ago, and put flyers out to encourage everyone to donate," Laura said.

"I know what it's like to live on a property and there are so many boarders at Scots, so I could see how this would affect people in the area."

Students donated myriad food items and other essentials to the Community Disaster Relief Van (CDRV) which travels to Longreach this week.

"We were really surprised, we didn't think we'd get that much until we came in this afternoon," Olivia said.

"Everyone came on board and made it a lot easier."

"It's something we did as a bit of fun for the last day of term, but it was a very rewarding experience," Laura said.

CDRV representative Maritta Hutley was impressed by their efforts.

"I'm totally amazed by what they've pulled together," she said.

"They've shown great initiative."
