MP demands rebate payments stopped

DODGY solar panel operators have been sprung in Stanthorpe and Member for Maranoa Bruce Scott fears more victims are being taken for ride under the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme.

Armed with cases from victims near Stanthorpe and Kingaroy, Mr Scott addressed parliament this week and demanded the government stop the rebate payments and ensure greater consumer protection.

"Using the glow of a mobile to illuminate the roof, a dodgy operator installed solar panels to a constituent's roof," Mr Scott said.

"The constituents did some digging and found the company doesn't have a Queensland BSA number."

He said that after the people phoned the Clean Energy Regulator to stop the rebate, they were told paperwork had already been signed and there was no recourse.

"The government needs to screen disreputable operators from the program and the stop the payments until regulations are formalised," he said.
