SDRC says no to pool tenders

THE future of the three outdoor swimming pools across the Southern Downs remains up in the air after a council meeting yesterday.

Tenders for the management of the facilities - at Stanthorpe, Allora and Killarney - as well as the fitness centre at Stanthorpe had been requested but the council resolved yesterday not to accept the tender submissions.

Southern Downs Mayor Tracy Dobie the council had received four tenders.

"The tenders were found to be non-conforming,” she said.

"Meaning the specific criteria had not been addressed sufficiently in each of the cases. So council made the decision to go out to tender again.”

No tenders were submitted for the management of the fitness centre and Cr Dobie said the council would continue to look after the management of the facility for a further 12 months.

"We will go back to each of the tenderers and assist them to work towards a conforming tender,” she said.

"If there are no conforming tenders submitted, council will take over the facilities for 12 months before putting out to tender again.”

Killarney pool lessee Andrew Fidge said he had put in a tender.

"But the tenders have been put out again and it's up to us whether we choose to go through the process another time,” Mr Fidge said.
