Seachange awaits Warwick high achiever
A NEW and exciting journey awaits Maddie Settree after receiving a fantastic result in her QCE, which has capped off a stellar academic year for the young lady.
Maddie received an OP2 when results were revealed, adding to her title of dux of Assumption College.
She found out her result earlier than expected, and did her best to hide her early morning joy.
"It was very exciting when I found out,” she said.
"I woke up at 5am to check because I couldn't resist.
"It was a bit hard to keep quiet, and I had to withhold until a reasonable hour to tell my family.
"My estimate was for a 3-6, so to get a 2 was amazing.
"I wanted to work as hard as I could.
"I knew I gave it my all to get what I could. It made me feel good to put in the effort and get the results.”
After her well-earned result, Maddie is looking forward to a big seachange to follow her dreams.
"I am heading to Griffith University to complete a Bachelor of Forensic Science and Criminology for a four-year course,” she said.
"It is the only university that does the double degree, and is something I've wanted to do since Grade 10.
"Before this I wanted to be a vet, until I did work experience.
"I like science and forensic investigation and the double allows me to explore that.”
Maddie said being able to discuss her future had allowed her to set her sights high.
"I would love to make it to the top of the field in forensic investigation or get into homicide investigations in the police force,” she said.
"At the Griffith University open day, I spoke to a teeth identifier who worked at scenes, and it was great to be able to speak to someone who had done incredible things in the field.
"I'm most looking forward to lectures at university and being able to hear from experts talking about what they've done. It will be inspirational.”
Maddie's rise to the top of the academic standings at Assumption was a quick one, after arriving at the school in Year 9 from New South Wales.
She was the top academic achiever of Year 11 and set herself the goal of becoming college dux at the start of the year. She was able to achieve it through her studies of religion, English, mathematics B, physics, chemistry and home economics.
Assumption College was chuffed with the outcomes of its students.
A total of 18 per cent of eligible Year 12 students received an OP1-5, and 87 per cent of Assumption College students received OP1-15.
