Man found dead in search after chopper crash
UPDATE: Police searching for a 25-year-old man believed to have been a passenger in a crashed helicopter have found a body in the wreckage of the downed chopper.
The body was found around 10am.
The pilot remains in a serious condition in Cairns Base Hospital.
EARLIER: POLICE have mounted a search for a man who they believe was a passenger on a helicopter that went crashed near Mount Carbine yesterday afternoon.
Around 1:30pm yesterday police were told a helicopter had crashed in the Daintree near the McLeod River crossing.
A search of the area found the crashed helicopter and its 43-year-old pilot, who was in a serious condition and needed to be transported to Cairns Base Hospital.
Police enquiries lead them to believe a second man was with the pilot during the day however they don't know if he was on-board during the crash.
A helicopter search of the area failed to find the man.
Police, SES workers and other government agencies have recommenced a land search this morning for the man in his twenties.
The pilot remains in a serious condition in hospital.
