OPINION: Searching for answers

TODAY we read of the tragic death of a young Warwick girl who was struck down overnight by meningococcal sepsis last August, leaving her family shocked and questioning.

Jazmyn's death devastated her family, including her mother Jeanella, father Rodney and siblings Cory, Tearna and Lameeka.

WHY DID JAZMYN DIE

The 17-year-old sports lover had played AFL just two days before she died and, as her mother said, she had a bit of a cold, but that was it".

"The next day she came home with a headache and took some Panadol and went to lie down."

She quickly found herself in hospital and never came home.

Jeanella is angry and frustrated her daughter died in hospital alone. She feels she was denied the chance to be beside her daughter when the final moment came.

Yesterday she learned an inquest into her daughter's death - determined to be a result of meningococcal sepsis - would be held in August. Now she hopes her questions will be answered ... but she knows nothing can end the pain.
